Amtrak’s Heartland Flyer train service connecting Oklahoma City with points in Texas is one of the most used routes on Amtrak’s system, Gatz noted. Future connections hoped for joining the Heartland Flyer with routes north in Kansas and in southern Texas would place Oklahoma at the heart of a growing regional infrastructure.

“Having those transportation alternatives is really important to a state that’s growing like Oklahoma and metropolitan areas growing like Oklahoma City is,” Gatz said.
